Project Finance teams work on an individual project basis, usually in the areas of Private Finance Initiatives (PFI) or Public Private Partnerships (PPP).
PFI and PPP are the interface between the public and the private sector on major infrastructure projects. The accountancy profession provides specialist "bid-side" and "buy-side" consultancy services to private sector and public sector clients respectively. PFI teams will provide broad financial and project consultancy at every stage of the project, ensuring that it is delivered as efficiently as possible.
There is demand within the project finance specialism for industry professionals with experience of "bid-side" and/or "buy-side" PFI experience. Likewise, PFI professionals often move from the profession into senior project finance positions within large infrastructure companies (bid-side) or public services organisations (buy-side). Top tier firms also offer secondments into PFI from other divisions.
