Project Accounting

Project accounting is the role of being a financial support to a project within a business. Projects can include, systems implementations, corporate finance transactions, restructuring, centralising, decentralising, product/service launches and many more. The role is highly commercial and often favours commercially experienced CIMA professionals, although some companies will take candidates straight from the profession to develop into the role. Roles are varied and can include accounting for project budgets and expenditure, analysis, investment appraisal and preparation of decision support reports. You will have regular liaison with non-finance professionals across operational, commercial and strategic disciplines from operators through to senior directors.

Is it for you?
Excellent communication skills and commercial acumen are paramount, adaptability and problem solving skills are demanded as projects can change direction as opportunities or other realisations arise. You will need to be able to multi task efficiently and be prepared to put in extra where needed.

Career Prospects
Career developments include project manager, programme manager, commercial accountant or other non-financial management routes.
